THE FOUNDATION
More Than Conquerors Faith Church (M.T.C.) had its beginnings in the summer of 1982, under the Pastorate of Dewayne Davis. Elder Dewayne Davis was very instrumental in More Than Conquerors' history, being a radical front leader in contemporary church issues. The original group of some 40 adult members initially met at a local restaurant to make plans for what would become More Than Conquerors Faith Center. An official meeting was held at the home of one of the members and More Than Conquerors Faith Church was born.
In October 1985, the reigns were given to then Assistant Pastor Steve Green. Under his dynamic leadership, the ministry of M.T.C. came into its own as a leader and champion for biblical truth in the Southeast.
The church officially changed its name from More Than Conquerors Faith Center to More Than Conquerors Faith Church as a point of emphasis that would accommodate both the liberal and traditional Christian mindset. Under Pastor Green's leadership, the ministry grew from 80 to 1200 people in his first year of leadership. This phenomenal growth sparked an excitement that continues to be the trademark of M.T.C. to this day.
By 1988, the congregation had grown to over 1800 and three Sunday services. This prompted the purchase of the facility on Woodland Avenue, SW. On the first Sunday in May 1988, M.T.C. held its first service in the new building located at 1901 Woodland Avenue, SW. In 1988 the ministry grew from a volunteer staff of 5 to a paid staff of 21. Our media ministries have expanded to include radio, television, and citywide billboards. Our music, media, and teaching became a towering standard as evidenced by the church growing to more than 3000 members. We continued to have high impact on the city and surrounding regions as we hosted various events and speakers through our Annual Campmeeting/Anniversary, the Feast of the Lord Banquet and our Annual Health Fair. Renowned performing artists and speakers continue to grace our house.
In the close of 1999, the erecting of our new multi-faceted ministry center complex in the beautiful Heritage Place Community was completed. Immediately, the Lord connected our Pastor with a man of like precious faith to whom he could yield and be mentored in successful pathways in the Kingdom of God. Under the spiritual covering of Bishop Eddie L. Long of the New Birth Cathedral in Lithonia, GA, Pastor Green has been favored with continual opportunities to release fresh revelations from the throne room. Opportunities such as two consecutive ministry appearances at the New Birth Cathedral's Prayer Conference.
With continued growth, the need for family and community activities, childcare, and sports was in great demand. This sparked our quest for Phase II of our building project, The Bethesda Family Life Center. As the church grew in its scope and vision, we became the recipient of the prestigious Birmingham Beautification Award, a distinction that honored the excellence displayed in both architectural presentations of our buildings and landscape. In like manner, God glorified the anointing of our leader, exposing his gift to the nations as he hosted TBN's "Praise the Lord" internationally and became a frequent host of the local TBN station in Gadsden, Alabama.
We have been privileged to host in our new facilities many kingdom gifts through teaching, musical, and prophetic ministries. God is manifesting his promises and glory like never before in our midst. Within the constituency of More Than Conquerors Faith Church, there is an even greater commitment to excellence of ministry that sparked our previous growth. The Word of the Lord declared that our latter end shall be greater than the former. So now we intensify our quest and infiltrate the corridors of this city through our music, our media ministries and community enrichment, which has afforded us the opportunity to host city, county, and state legislative forums. To this end we have been called, even chosen to become More Than Conquerors!
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation,
or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long;
we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors
through him that loved us.
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life,
nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present,
nor things to come,
nor height nor depth, nor any other creature,
shall be able to separate us from the love of God,
which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
